Hector Daniel MacNeil passed away peacefully at the ICMH on Saturday, August 28th, 2021, with his niece Jeannie Grandy and Joe Morrison by his side. Born in Iona, Hector was a son of Rory Angus and Effie MacNeil. He returned to Cape Breton and lived in Sydney, Orangedale, and Port Hood, where he made many friends and will be missed dearly. Hector had a great sense of humour, was quick with a witty comeback and was always as sharp as a tack! Fiercely independent, Hector lived his life on his own terms with no regrets. Besides his parents, Hector was predeceased by his sister Christena, brothers Johnny and Malcolm, nephews Frankie Grandy and Will Fraser. Hector is survived by sisters, Theresa MacDonald, Mary MacNeil, Jenny Grandy, Cecilia Baker, Libby MacNeil; and brothers Neil, Archie, Alex , Norman ; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Bella. Arrangements entrusted to the Sunset Funeral Cooperative. Eugene Theodore Arsenault was born December 18th, 1944, at home on Arsenault Hill. He was predeceased by his parents Raymond and Clara Arsenault; brother Gerald; sister Annie Rose. When Eugene was 12 and 13 years of age he was trapping muskrats along the banks of the gulch below the house to sell the pelts to Charles G. Whidden in Antigonish. At 14 he worked on the bread truck , and also worked in the woods cutting pulp. He married Peggy Robertson and they had two children. He went to work at Aluminum Goods, where an awful accident left him with five degree acid burns on 45 per cent of his upper chest and arms. He had to get many skin grafts and suffered a lot from the burns. He worked for Trailmobile driving transport for many years until he semi-retired years after. He loved going to the race track and watching hockey and ball games on TV. Maggie Willie taught him how to play guitar, so he would play and sing for his grandchildren whom he loved very much. His favourite relaxing pastime was playing and singing Hank Williams songs. He lived in Toronto for 59 years, but his heart was in Cape Breton. He is survived by his daughter Kimberly ; son Shayne; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four nieces and four nephews; sister Mathilda; and the love of his life Diane, who took excellent care of him. The strong points Friendly staff The weak points Smells of stale smoke. Dining is expensive – even in the hotel’s food court. Older building, far away, cheap to rent, but nothing cheap inside. Pools not all open, moving sidewalks not working, less cost than others though. An excellent price for air-fare and 3 nights accomodations. Will definitely keep watching for more specials of this kind. Great value, however hotel has a daily resort fee charged at the resort…..Staff at all levels Front desk, housekeeping and casino are all very helpful and friendly. As a last minute decision my husband and I decided to book a mini-moon to Las Vegas. The price was great and the hotel location was excellent. We stayed in one of the older rooms on the 20th floor which had a view of Luxor. One thing we did not like about staying at Excalibur was that in the bathroom there was only 1 bar of soap. We had to take one from the maid’s cart to use for the shower. Another thing we did not particularly like was every time we walked through the lobby we were approached by an Excalibur employee who tried to get us to join an off-site information session about another property. We were not at all interested in joining this session and when we learned that if you give them a thumbs-up they will not continue to bother you. We ate at The Buffet on the second floor and it was FANTASTIC! We used the express online check-out and dropped our room keys in the box in the lobby which worked well.
