Hector Daniel MacNeil passed away peacefully at the ICMH on Saturday, August 28th, 2021, with his niece Jeannie Grandy and Joe Morrison by his side. Born in Iona, Hector was a son of Rory Angus and Effie MacNeil. He returned to Cape Breton and lived in Sydney, Orangedale, and Port Hood, where he made many friends and will be missed dearly. Hector had a great sense of humour, was quick with a witty comeback and was always as sharp as a tack! Fiercely independent, Hector lived his life on his own terms with no regrets. At 14 he worked on the bread truck , and also worked in the woods cutting pulp. He married Peggy Robertson and they had two children. He went to work at Aluminum Goods, where an awful accident left him with five degree acid burns on 45 per cent of his upper chest and arms. He had to get many skin grafts and suffered a lot from the burns. He worked for Trailmobile driving transport for many years until he semi-retired years after. He loved going to the race track and watching hockey and ball games on TV. Maggie Willie taught him how to play guitar, so he would play and sing for his grandchildren whom he loved very much. His favourite relaxing pastime was playing and singing Hank Williams songs. He lived in Toronto for 59 years, but his heart was in Cape Breton. He is survived by his daughter Kimberly ; son Shayne; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four nieces and four nephews; sister Mathilda; and the love of his life Diane, who took excellent care of him.
